Uitgangspunten Lidmaatschap Netwerk De Noordenaars

Laatste update: juli 2025

  1. Missie & Visie

  • Code Cultural Governance – goed bestuur en transparantie;
  • Code Diversiteit & Inclusie – toegankelijkheid en representatie in de kunstsector;

1. Mission & Vision

Noordenaars is a network of visual art presentation platforms, talent development organisations, and production houses in Drenthe, Groningen, and Fryslân. We support artists in experimentation, talent development, and the production of new visual art. We also facilitate mutual support and the exchange of knowledge among members of the network.

As a network, we work to increase the recognition and appreciation of visual art in the Northern Netherlands among politicians, policymakers, and wider society. Together with our national partners, we advocate for the interests of arts organisations and cultural workers in the three northern provinces of the Netherlands. Collectively, we are committed to building a sustainable, inclusive, and professional arts ecosystem in the Northern Netherlands.

We believe that collaboration, knowledge sharing, solidarity, and collective responsibility are essential to creating fair opportunities for artists and building a strong infrastructure for visual art, regardless of an organisation’s scale or location.

2. Who can become a member?

Foundations, associations, and cooperatives that:

  • Have visual art at the core of their programme;
  • Are based in Drenthe, Fryslân, or Groningen;
  • Organise multiple presentations and/or residencies each year and/or offer development programmes;
  • Provide artists with opportunities for development as part of their regular activities;
  • Operate on a not-for-profit basis (for example, as a foundation with ANBI status);
  • Work to strengthen artists’ and self-employed cultural workers’ earning capacity and socio-economic position, or can demonstrate that they are actively working towards this goal. This includes fair remuneration for artists, paid residencies, or other forms of support that enable artists to strengthen their position in society and increase their earning capacity;

  • Governance Code Culture – good governance and transparency;
  • Diversity & Inclusion Code – accessibility and representation within the cultural sector;

We collaborate with art academies, production houses, presentation institutions, artists, and policymakers to build a sustainable infrastructure for art in the Northern Netherlands.

These codes are not strict conditions for membership, but represent shared ambitions. Organisations are not excluded if they do not yet fully implement them, provided they demonstrate a clear commitment to improvement and a willingness to work towards these ambitions as part of the network.

7. Finally

Noordenaars is not a closed collective, but an open network that embraces a diversity of perspectives and practices. We support one another, even when not everything is fully in place yet. As long as commitment, motivation, and collaboration remain at the heart of the network, Noordenaars can continue to grow alongside its members.
